Guide to using the Network Graph analysis tool
Guide to using the Network Graph analysis tool
Updated over 6 months ago

In this article we share how to use the Network Graph tool to analyse the Organizational Network data you have gathered from your organization.

❗️ The Network Graph analysis tool is only available for Workspace Admins and Observers.

Overview of Features

Below is an overview of the specific features in the tool to help you start navigating and performing the analysis. Click here for example use cases.

All functionality is operated via the right-hand navigation module. Next we'll have a look at what each functionality does.

Organize by People or Groups

The very first selection allows you to switch between a graph that has one node per employee, and a graph that aggregates the connections to group level.

When looking at group level graph, you can double-click any group to split it into smaller groups (if those exist).

Select users or teams

You are able to select individual users or groups (teams) by selecting them from the dropdown selectors.

Selecting individual users will immediately highlight them in the graph. If you select groups (teams) you can click Select group members to select all members of that group into the graph.

You will see this view after you have selected users:

Hide non-selected users

Once you have selected users (either individually or based on groups) you can hide all non-selected users via the Hide others toggle.

Toggle names on / off

You are able to toggle the names of individuals on and off by using the Show names dropdown:

  • Never = no names are shown

  • Dynamic = will adjust according to amount of users selected

  • Always = will always show everyone's name

Select which connections to show

By default the tool only shows direct connections between selected users (Between selected). You can also make additional connections visible into the graph:

  • All connections = show what connections the selected users have in addition to the ones which are already visible.

  • 2nd degree connections = show the 2nd degree of connections, ie. to whom an users connections connect with.

Recalculating the graph

Once you have selected users and hidden the non-selected users, it's useful to recalculate the graph using only the selected users. You can do this by clicking the Recalculate graph button at the bottom of the navigation bar.

The recalculation adjusts the graph view to represent the connections and closeness of the users you have selected to the graph.

You are able to recalculate the graph as many times and we suggest doing it after making changes to user selections.

Adjusting the sensitivity

In the graph you only see connections between users that surpass the sensitivity threshold. If you feel uncertain about adjusting this setting, it's recommended to leave it at the default value of 60.

What this means is with a low sensitivity score, the tool will only show the strongest connections. With a higher sensitivity score you will start to see less strong connections. This is helpful if you need to dig deeper into how people are connected. Or if you want to only look at the strongest possible connections between individuals.

Usually you should expect strong connections to appear inside a team or with person's key stakeholders. Weaker connections might still be important, for example if marketing and product management leaders meet less frequently to align on their plans and priorities.

Adjusting the slider for Sensitivity will automatically adjust the connections in the graph.

Below you can see 3 different versions of the same graph with different sensitivity scores:

  • Left: sensitivity 30

  • Center: sensitivity 60

  • Right: sensitivity 90
