How do Light Users work in Teamspective
Last updated: August 26, 2026
A Light user is a limited-access engagement survey participant.
Light users are intended for people who only need to answer engagement surveys, not use the full Teamspective workspace. This makes it possible to collect feedback from a broader group while keeping access to workspace data, survey administration, and results appropriately restricted.
When are Light users used?
Light users are typically used when an organization wants to invite people to respond to surveys without granting them full Teamspective access.
For example, a Light user may be someone who:
Is invited only to answer a specific survey
Does not need access to the broader Teamspective workspace - due to lack of company issued devices or credentials
Should not see survey results, reports, or analytics
May be included through a limited login flow or integration-based user provisioning
What Light users can do
Light users can:
Open surveys they have been invited to answer
Submit survey responses
Add or update comments connected to their own responses within the survey
Edit their language preference
Sign out securely
The Light user experience is intentionally focused on survey participation. After signing in, Light users are directed to the survey-answering flow rather than the full Teamspective product.
What Light users cannot access
To protect confidential organizational information, Light users do not have access to:
Survey results, reports, or analytics
Team, workspace, or organizational data
Survey administration or configuration
User management or permission settings
The main Teamspective navigation
Features available only to full users
Standard survey switching through the full product interface
Profile editing for Light users
Light users can only edit their language preference.
They cannot edit their name in the Light user experience. This is especially important when user data is managed through an HRIS integration, where profile information such as name is expected to come from the HRIS as the source of truth.
How Light users differ from full users
Capability | Light user | Full user |
|---|---|---|
Answer assigned surveys | Yes | Yes |
Submit or update own response comments | Yes | Yes |
Edit language preference | Yes | Yes |
Edit name/profile details | No | Depends on setup and source of user data |
View survey results | No | Depends on permissions |
Access workspace and team information | No | Depends on permissions |
Manage surveys or users | No | Depends on permissions |
Use the full Teamspective product | No | Yes |
Be selected for broader feedback workflows | No | Yes |
Why use Light users?
Light users help organizations collect feedback while limiting access to only what the respondent needs.
They are useful when participants should be able to provide input but should not or can't (due to lack of company issued devices or credentials) gain visibility into information such as survey results, team structures, workspace data, or administrative settings.
In short, Light users are designed for focused survey participation, while full users have access to the broader Teamspective product according to their assigned permissions.
