How does the Discussions feature work?
Last updated: April 2, 2026
Summary
Discussions help you prepare and document your 1:1s and team meetings. Add agenda items, take notes together in real time, and keep track of what was discussed.
The AI Chat has access to your discussions and can draft discussion agenda on your behalf.
Creating a discussion
To create a discussion, go to Discussions -> Add discussion. Give the discussion a name, select a host and at least one participant. The discussion is only visible to its participants — other workspace members cannot see it.
Each discussion can have up to 25 participants.
Host vs. participants
The host manages the discussion. They can:
- Edit the discussion name
- Add or remove participants
- Archive and unarchive the discussion
- Connect or disconnect the discussion from Slack
Participants can add notes and comments but cannot change the discussion settings. The host role can be reassigned by editing the discussion.
Notes and comments
A discussion consists of notes and comments.
- Notes are the main content blocks — use them for agenda items, meeting notes, or action items.
- Comments are threaded replies under a note — use them for follow-ups or reactions.
Both notes and comments can be edited for up to one year after creation. You can also download or print individual notes or the entire discussion.
Templates
When adding a new note, you can select a template to pre-fill the note with a structured format.
Teamspective provides default templates, and workspace admins can create custom templates from Discussions > Admin > Discussion templates.
Real-time collaborative editing
Notes support real-time collaborative editing.
When multiple participants have the same discussion open, they can edit notes simultaneously — you'll see other users' cursors and names in the editor. Changes are synced instantly and no content is lost, even if two people edit at the same time.
Using Discussions with the AI Chat

Slack integration
If your workspace has Slack connected, you can link a discussion to a dedicated Slack channel. When connected:
- New notes appear as messages in the Slack channel
- Comments appear as thread replies under the corresponding note
- Participants are automatically added to the Slack channel
You can connect to Slack when creating a discussion or later from the discussion header. Disconnecting from Slack does not delete the channel.
Archiving
Hosts can archive a discussion when it's no longer active. Archived discussions are hidden from the default list view but can be found using the "Archived" filter. If the discussion is connected to Slack, the Slack channel is also archived.
Archived discussions can be unarchived at any time by the host.
AI insights from structured feedback
If your workspace uses Structured feedback, hosts can add AI-generated insights to a note. This pulls themes and key points from a participant's latest evaluation and adds them as a summary in the note, with a link to the full evaluation results.
Managed missing discussions
Managers can use the Managed missing filter to see team members who don't have a discussion set up yet, making it easy to ensure everyone has regular 1:1s.
Printing and download
You can download or print the full discussion or individual notes using the download buttons in the discussion header and on each note.
