Why Personal Feedback?
Why Personal Feedback?
The Personal Feedback tool is designed to facilitate feedback between employees in the day-to-day. It's so easy to keep your feedback to yourself or only share it 1-2 times a year during formal feedback rounds. We believe that feedback should be shared continuously and the solution is helping people develop their skill of asking for feedback.
There are 2 big blockers which Teamspective's tool solves and we'll discuss them shortly below.
Timing: Is now a good time to give feedback?
This is a big question which usually makes people hesitate sharing their feedback. They are not sure whether the other person wants to hear their feedback right now. Are they too stressed or busy to actively take in the feedback I want to share? What if I use a lot of effort in sharing my feedback and it get's completely ignored. Moreover, I want to be polite. I don't want to share something negative to the other person.
π Asking for feedback solves this issue because it makes it 100% clear when a person is open for feedback.
Scoping: What should the feedback include?
The scope or amount of feedback you share to another person can vary a lot. More often the scope ends up being either too broad or too small. You end up giving feedback on everything and anything, you don't give enough feedback or you give feedback on topics which aren't a priority for the other person. This takes a lot of time and most of the feedback you give will most likely not be appreciated by the receiver because it's not a concern for them. Obviously there are times when radically candid feedback must be shared directly, but in the day-to-day it is more effective for the receiver to define what they want feedback on.
π Scoping a feedback request solves this issue because it makes it clear which 1-2 topics are meaningful for the receiver.
Next, let's look into how our tool helps facilitate feedback.
π₯ Asking for feedback
Teamspective encourages you to Ask for Feedback on a regular basis. If enabled, you will also receive automated nudges from time to time.
The main workflow for sending a feedback request is:
Selecting who you want feedback from.
Selecting topics which scope your feedback request.
Eg. I want feedback on my communication skills.
Adding a personal message to give more context.
Selecting the visibility of the feedback:
Private will keep it between you.
Limited will share it with people who have been granted access to your shared feedback. Usually this is a manager or HR.
Below we show how requests are sent in different platforms:
