How do I assign and edit the default notification channels?

Workspace admins can assign the default notification channels that are used for users who have not yet customized their own notification preferences.

Where to edit the default notification channels

  1. Open Organization settings -> Settings (under Organization)

  2. Go to the notification settings section.

  3. Find Default notification channels.

  4. Select the channels you want to use by default.

  5. Save your changes.

Which channels can be selected?

The available options depend on which integrations are enabled for your workspace.

  • Email is always available.

  • Slack is available when Slack is connected to the workspace.

  • Microsoft Teams is available when Microsoft Teams is connected to the workspace.

You can use email and Slack together, or email and Microsoft Teams together. Slack and Microsoft Teams are not used together as default channels at the same time.

What happens if no channel is selected?

If all channels are removed from the setting, Teamspective falls back to email as the default notification channel.

How the default affects users

The default notification channels are used as the starting point for users who have not edited their own notification preferences.

  • If a user has not customized their notification preferences, they receive notifications through the workspace default channels.

  • If a user has customized their own preferences, their personal settings override the workspace default.

  • If a selected messaging channel, such as Slack or Microsoft Teams, is not connected for a specific user, notifications fall back to email for that user.

What happens when a new messaging platform integration is enabled?

When a new messaging platform is enabled for the workspace, Teamspective may add that channel to users’ notification preferences by default. Users can still change their personal notification preferences afterwards.

Example

If Slack is connected and the default notification channels are set to Email + Slack, new users and users who have not changed their notification preferences will receive notifications by email and Slack. If an individual user later changes their own notification preferences, their personal choice takes priority.
