Tips for Anonymous Chat

What is Anonymous Chat good for and how you should use it?

Updated over 5 months ago

Anonymous Chat (formerly Management feedback) is the answer to organizations' need of making it as easy as possible to bring forth new ideas, feedback or concerns about things happening in the company.

Some examples what this can mean:

  • Blowing the whistle on any concerning or even illegal events and practices.

  • Giving feedback to management or HR team without need to worry about one's job security or reputation.

  • Reaching out to HR with a sensitive, personal topic.

  • Proposing new ideas or initiatives. A "virtual innovation box".

  • Asking questions which get answered via Teamspective, in an "ask me anything" meeting or some other channel

  • Giving management or HR team praise on things they've done well

Anonymous Chat is a limited access feature - if you don't see it in your Teamspective account, your admin can reach out to Teamspective to activate it.

Check our Anonymous Chat Implementation guide to setup different channels / inboxes.

Examples of feedback shared via Anonymous Chat

We highly recommend following our Recipe for Perfect Feedback when communicating feedback of any sort. Especially if you send it anonymously. Observation-impact-action format makes the feedback as tangible and actionable as possible, helping the receiver do something to improve the situation.

Blowing the whistle

I was checking my customers' invoices and noticed that we had mistakenly charged them for services they hadn't ordered or received. Trying to correct this, I found out that this is a common practice in our company and finance team had no intention of fixing the issue. I'm worried that this practice is illegal, or really deceptive at least and should be stopped immediately.

Making a complaint (when other approaches have not worked)

I have in the past months observed that in teams X and Y it has become normal to work overtime 10+ hours per week. At first I thought this was related to the busy holiday season, but now I've heard many say that they are close to a burnout. I'm not sure what to do about this, and hope you could help resolve the situation.

Me and my colleagues have repeatedly witnessed XY making offensive jokes and remarks about minorities to which also I belong. We have pointed out the issue and asked for this to stop, but it hasn't helped. Thus I wanted to make a complaint through this channel, hoping the situation can be addressed.

Giving feedback to management

Hey management team! I wanted to point out that to me it seems your recent communication about our vision and strategy really has helped restore my and other employees' trust in our company, and has made the work feel much more meaningful. I hope you can keep up the active communication and two-way discussion also in the future!

Communicating an idea or an initiative

In my recent customer meetings every other customer has been talking about this challenge XYZ they are facing. I'm not aware that we are doing anything related to it, and in my role I'm afraid I don't have the resources to shift our focus either. So I wanted to bring this up with you to discuss. If we take action on it I'm happy to contribute, since I've already discussed this with several customers.
